Help Needed

Help Needed with Auckland and national church attendance research - great opportunity for student assignments

  1. Obtain attendance stats for 1981-2004 from head offices of 25 denominations to verify figures used here: particularly Presbyterian, Apostolic, Elim, Vineyard, New Life, Methodist, several evangelical Methodist groups, Ringatu, Ratana.  Also add these into the DAWN data to verify it as a starting point.

  2. Review Peter Lineham's material on the Brethren to see if it is possible to verify Brethren stats.

  3. Go to the basement of St John's College and get Anglican stats for Auckland and New Zealand, recalculating Auckland figures from within Greater Auckland boundaries and comparing with national figures.

  4. Check with Pat Lythe on who has national Catholic figures.  Compare Auckland attendance rates with national attendance rates

  5. Obtain the original DAWN research database and check its sources.

  6. Convert comments on the Excel Spreadsheets underling this data to properly references footnotes.

  7. Coordinate with the Church Life Survey leaders, particularly Max Scott, as to whether there are any data they have which can add to verification.

  8. Find out if Lynne Taylor or Max has the more detailed data from Statistics New Zealand on religions.

  9. Someone with institutional backing needs to take over the Auckland church database as an ongoing project.  This should be done as a service to several organisations who regularly are serving all the churches.  This would include sustaining a database of leaders of ethnic church networks.
